3 Supportive Steps How Spirituality Can Serve You Letting Go Of Trauma

Physical, sexual or emotional abuse is usually the root of all trauma. Being forced into a physical and emotional position against your will makes it very hard to like the world, trust yourself or trust others, what results in low self-esteem.

Most who are traumatised carry a huge load of guilt because they believe it’s their own fault. And many stay in silence because of shame.  Obviously there’s so much going that many check out and disconnect.

I wasn’t ready to seek professional help. I needed an in-between!

I would advice anyone who’s in need of it to seek professional help. You can search for a coach, therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist. Your doctor can help.

But I remember how my own path to recovery started. I remember letting go of my own trauma. And even though I might have needed to get professional help I wasn’t ready for it yet. I needed an in-between. Yoga & Meditation provided that in-between. It showed me a light that made me stronger so I eventually asked for professional help.

You’re A Spirit Having A Human Experience

As you disconnect from your body, mind and souls purpose your spirit is always waiting till it can shine the light again. It’s waiting to show the way back. I mean you’re a spirit having a human experience, so you’re kind a stuck with that spirit. It’s not like your spirit can jump another body. Any trauma you want to let go off will disappear when you hold it in the light. Aligning yourself with the source of your being will serve you. It will support you in your journey to feeling whole again. Your spirit wants you to come back to the path you were meant to walk on.

The Next Steps I reveal to you are for anyone who needs an in-between.

Step 1 Start Seeing The Truth (Without Judgment)

When you realise you’re ready to recover from trauma or from whatever that’s been holding you back, the first step is allowing the truth to appear. The trauma has created an illusion. For years you’ve been feeling emotions and thinking thoughts that came from fear. It’s like you were swimming at the surface of the ocean through a constant storm, trying to keep your head up because you always thought that you would drown if you would choose differently.

What if I told you that there was no storm. There was no ocean. You weren’t able to drown. There was no danger. This came all from fear. It was an illusion. That realisation that there’s always another choice, shock me to my very core. I was a changed man!

From now on I always want to be able to make my own choices and not be manipulated by fear.

But when you’re used to this illusion for it takes effort to rewire yourself. And you want to do that without judgment.

Meditation is the fastest and easiest way to reprogram yourself. Meditation will give you awareness. Meditation will bring you in this present moment. It will be a daily reminder to connect with your authentic Self. It reminds you to want to see the truth and not be part of the illusion. Meditation isn’t difficult and you can’t do it wrong. All these thoughts trying to convince you otherwise come from fear. You need to untangle yourself from that web of lies and embrace the truth.

The truth is that you’re beautiful.

You’re a spirit having a human experience. You’re born. You have a beating heart. All qualities that give you the right to achieve any dream you desire. When you connect to your Authentic Self you’re happy and free to be who you’re meant to be. The truth will set you free. You need to want to see it, without judgment. You need to want to believe it. A daily meditation practice with positive affirmations will definitely do the trick. Click here to start your meditation practice now!

Step 2 Accept Your Life

The moment when you see the truth is the moment when you can accept yourself. As you see the truth clarity comes to you. As you practice seeing the truth clarity comes to you. Business Mentor Marie Forleo taught me that “Clarity comes from action” and it applies in every area of your life.

So what can you do with this clarity? What can you do with this profound knowledge?

You can let go of the past.

The moment when you become clear and aware of the truth is the moment when you realise that anything you’re holding on to of the past is keeping you from living in the present moment. Letting go of trauma starts by allowing it to go away. This means unfinished business, regrets, resentment, grief, blame, shame and more. Creating awareness of the truth will give you a clear path of what you need to do.

Forgive and let go! Sounds easy, and basically is so! Any resistance coming up right now is just an excuse not to do it. And not doing it means you don’t want to let go of the trauma. You can make this step as difficult as you can or you can make it really easy. Choose the easy way. Choose to change. Choose to recover. Choose to align with your authentic Self. Choose growth.

You can stop worry about the future

Living in this moment is where you’ll have most clarity of life. So not only do you want to let go of anything keeping you connected to the past, you also want to stop worrying about tomorrow. You can prepare, but the moment when it becomes an obsession that keeps you from seeing the present moment, it will create distance between you and your authenticity.

You can accept your life

I actually have a favourite yogapose I use in my classes as an example to accept your life.  Warrior 2 pose (Virabhadrasana 2) will connect you with the confidence to accept the good, the bad and the ugly of your life. You need to own your story! Everything you have experienced made you the person that you are in this present moment. And as Eckart Tolle describes in his amazing book “The Power of Now”, the present moment is where you have the power to create any future you desire.

You Create Alignment With Who You Are By Accepting Who You’ve Become

Step 3 Acknowledge The Journey

You need to know that just knowing and understanding won’t give you results. You need to start doing. You need to get dirty. You need to be willing and devoted to your personal transformation. You need to step out of wherever you’ve been hiding and step into the arena. You need to step into the spotlight, where you’ll be vulnerable. You’re going to be judged. You’re going to be uncomfortable. But you know what…. you’re going to feel alive, because out of your comfort zone is where you will grow. Not on the sideline. Remember this when resistance is trying to pull you back.

You’re going to feel alive, because out of your comfort zone is where you will grow.

And when you’re overwhelmed with too many thoughts and awkward feelings. Thoughts like: It needs to be perfect. It needs to be controlled. This is stupid. I’m not worthy. I’m not good enough. I always fail. What am I doing? I can’t do this. When these fearful thoughts are present in your mind that means you’re doing something right. As Susan Jeffers explained in her book and the title says it all: “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway.”

“Feel the fear and do it anyway” – Susan Jeffers

Realise that you don’t have to be perfect. It can always be better. You just need to start. You need to do. You just embarked on this journey, so give yourself the space to explore and learn. Everything is as it’s supposed to be. Everything is a learning curve. When you see your spiritual journey as a path with only lessons and opportunities, you will learn how to deal with the limitations of fear.

I always tell my yoga students that there’s a journey to the headstand (Sirsasana). If you want to do it right away, you’ll probably never will enjoy it properly because you’ve missed some steps.

Whenever you’re aware you’re giving yourself a hard time! Be compassionate and treat yourself with kindness.

Ps. As English is not my first language there can be grammar mistakes. Hopefully you can read around this and focus on the essence of the text. Thank you!

Remember the in-between serves as a stepping stone for further recovery!

Pps. Know and understand that I’m a Spiritual Life Coach, not a therapist. I can help you move forward. That’s what coaches do. This article is about using the light as a stepping-stone or as I called it an in-between. It’s the start of your spiritual journey in letting go of trauma and improving your wellbeing. I would advice anyone who’s in need of it to seek professional help. When you go arm in arm with a coach, it might happen that the coach will refer you to a therapist. Your doctor can help find what you need!
